About
I'm a senior technical writer and self-described reader's advocate who enjoys transforming complex technical information into documentation people can confidently understand and use..
My experience includes API and developer documentation, user and administrator guides, compliance reporting, technical editing, content strategy, and documentation automation.
Beginning my career as a contractor was challenging, but it taught me resilience, adaptability, and the confidence to tackle increasingly complex documentation projects.
By the time the dot-com bubble burst, I was entrusted with and successfully managing multiple complex documentation projects—simultaneously. Developer documentation was the most challenging of these projects, so I sought to increase my expertise in this area. I had a taste of programming in college and loved it so much that I considered switching from my Professional Writing major. Mostly through self-study and hands-on experience, I've learned to communicate effectively with developer audiences while working with object-oriented languages, command-line tools, scripting, markup languages, and both front-end and back-end technologies.
I especially enjoy projects that require translating complex concepts into documentation that helps people succeed, whether the audience is a software developer, engineer, technician, or first-time user.
Over the years, I've developed a passion and expertise for bridging the gap between subject-matter experts and the people who rely on their products and services. My bottom line is to ensure that technical concepts are accessible to a diverse audience. That's why when someone asks me what I do for a living, I like to say I'm a reader's advocate.
