User Guide Redesign

Overview​

This before-and-after sample demonstrates how AI-generated draft content can be transformed into structured, professional user documentation. The exercise focuses on technical editing, information architecture, procedural writing, terminology, and usability.

Project Summary​

Challenge​

AI-generated documentation can provide a useful starting point, but draft content often requires substantial refinement before it is ready for users. For this portfolio exercise, I created a deliberately weak AI-generated passage containing common documentation problems, including repetition, vague instructions, missing prerequisites, inconsistent terminology, and limited procedural structure.

Solution​

I transformed the draft into task-oriented user documentation by removing repetitive content, identifying and adding prerequisite information, restructuring narrative text as a procedure, standardizing terminology, and clarifying the expected result of the task.

Result​

The revised content demonstrates how editorial judgment and technical-writing practices can turn a rough AI-generated draft into concise, structured, usable documentation.
